Everything you need to know before you book, and before you arrive for your training, for HRW licences as well as other courses.

What to bring on the day

• 3 forms of ID (WHS website – ID check). You cannot be assessed without them.
• Enclosed shoes. These must be worn to the face-to-face training session.
• Your printed and completed practice questions from your confirmation email. If you do not have a printer, you can write the answers on a loose-leaf sheet of paper.
• Your online pre-study, completed.

Requirements for all HRW licensing

• You must be over the age of 18 to apply for your HRW licence. Most other courses require you to be at least 16.
• The HRW licence is issued by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and is nationally recognised. For other courses, a certificate of completion is issued by the RTO.
• You must be able to speak, read and write English and complete basic numeracy calculations. A language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment is completed when you enrol. Where additional support may be required, this will be discussed with you. The results are recorded and, where required, discussed with each student.
• You will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you do not have one, you can create one free at usi.gov.au.
• Courses include a written theory and calculations exam, followed by a performance assessment.
• You need to pass the theory and calculations before you can complete the practical assessment.
• The person marking your HRW licence assessment is a WHSQ-authorised assessor. No cheating is allowed. You will be asked to leave, and your assessment results will be cancelled.

Identification

WHSQ currently requires three evidence-of-identity documents, made up of either one Category A and two Category B, or two Category A and one Category B. Digital versions of some documents are acceptable when presented through the relevant app.

Examples of acceptable ID include:

• Australian driver’s licence (current, or expired by no more than 2 years)
• Any international passport (current, or expired by no more than 2 years)
• Australian birth certificate
• Australian Medicare card (in date)
• Australian or international bank card with your name embossed on it

The name on your ID must match the name on your booking. Click here for the full list of acceptable ID.

If you arrive without 3 acceptable forms of ID, you will not be able to be assessed and your registration fee will not be refunded.

Pre-study

Once you register, you will receive login details for our Online Training Portal. You will need an internet connection and access to a desktop, laptop or tablet.

You will need to set aside a few hours to complete this, so do not leave it until the last day. If you arrive without your pre-study completed, your registration fee will not be refunded.

How HRW licence training works

1. Register for your course online, or by calling one of our team.
2. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with important information and login details for our Online Training Portal.
3. Complete the online, self-paced pre-course learning materials. These will greatly assist your preparation for the course.
4. You will attend face-to-face training, which includes practical training, a review of your study materials and assessment preparation. Some students need additional training at no extra cost. Your trainer will tell you if this applies.
5. On the 2-day course, your assessment is held the next day. On the 1-day fast track, your assessment is held the same day. For the After-Hours Express Fast Track course, your training and assessment timetable will be confirmed before attendance.
6. Once you are deemed competent by passing your theory, calculations and performance assessments, you will receive an email with your Candidate Assessment Summary directly from WHSQ.
7. You must then apply online to WHSQ for your High Risk Work licence within 60 days, using the link in the email or Online services at worksafe.qld.gov.au. If you miss the 60 days, you will need to redo the full course and pay the full course fee again. You can apply for a new HRW licence card, or add a new licence class to your existing HRW licence.
8. Once your application has been lodged, keep your Candidate Assessment Summary and proof of payment as evidence while your licence application is being processed.

The WHSQ High Risk Work licence application fee is currently $113.41 per licence class and is paid directly to WHSQ. The card can take up to 4 weeks to arrive by mail. The licence needs to be renewed every 5 years.

If you don’t pass the first time

We do not charge for any additional training you may need.

Your second assessment is FREE on our designated reassessment days, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You only need to redo the part of the assessment you did not pass.

Reassessments booked on other days may incur a $150 rebooking fee.

Cancelling or rescheduling

To cancel or reschedule, please email admin@worksafeqld.com.au. Doing it by email gives both of us a dated record of your request.

• Our Student Handbook requires 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule.
• As a courtesy, we will reschedule you free of charge if you let us know at least 24 hours before your course.
• Less than 24 hours’ notice, or not attending, incurs a $150 rebooking fee.

Fees and refunds

Fees are levied on all courses.

Final Trim Training management is responsible for ensuring that fees paid in advance are accounted for in a separate financial control centre.

All courses require a non-refundable registration payment when booking.
The After-Hours Express Fast Track Forklift course requires a $200 registration payment.
The registration payment forms part of your total course fee, with the remaining balance payable when you arrive for training.

Students enrolling in full courses (e.g. certificate courses) are asked to pay a non-refundable deposit at the time of enrolment, with subsequent payments as outlined in the relevant payment plan.

Final Trim Training operates a refund policy that is fair and equitable, and in accordance with the policy and procedures set out in Final Trim Training’s Operations Policy and Procedures.

The registration fee is refunded when:

• A review of credit transfer indicates that the student does not have to undertake the course, or part of the course.
• A student is unable to attend because of extended hospitalisation or illness, and/or pregnancy or childbirth.

In all other cases, provided you give the notice required above, your registration fee can be transferred to a new course date.

Refunds are NOT issued when:

• you change your mind about doing the course
• changes occur in a student’s work hours
• it becomes inconvenient for a student to attend, or to travel to class
• a student moves interstate
• a student changes jobs or becomes retrenched
• a student leaves before finishing the course or unit of competency
• a student arrives with insufficient ID, or has not completed the required pre-training materials
• a student is removed from the course for a serious breach of discipline (including cheating, or being deemed to be affected by an illicit substance or alcohol)

Frequently asked questions

I have never driven a forklift. Can I still do the course?

Yes. The 2-day course is for beginners and people with limited experience. Your training is on day 1 and your assessment is on day 2. Before day 1 you complete your online pre-study and your practice questions, so you arrive already knowing the theory. Some students need additional training, and that is at no extra cost. Your trainer will tell you if it applies to you.

Which forklift course do I need?

Book the 2-day course if you are a beginner or have limited experience. The daytime 1-day fast track is for experienced operators, because your training and assessment both happen on the same day. The After-Hours Express Fast Track is for operators with at least two years of practical forklift experience. Hours: TBC.

What is the total cost to get my forklift licence?

Our standard daytime forklift courses are $399 in total for training and assessment. You pay a non-refundable $100 registration payment when you book and the remaining $299 when you arrive.

The After-Hours Express Fast Track Forklift course is $499 in total per student. You pay a non-refundable $200 registration payment when you book and the remaining $299 when you arrive.

For both options, the Queensland Government high-risk work licence application fee is additional and payable separately. After you pass, you pay WHSQ directly for your licence application, which is currently $113.41 per licence class.

Do I walk out with my licence on the day?

No. Once you are deemed competent in your theory, calculations and performance assessments, WHSQ emails you a Candidate Assessment Summary. You then apply online to WHSQ for your licence within 60 days, and if you miss the 60 days you will need to redo the full course and pay the full course fee again. The summary is not your licence card, but once you have lodged your application it is your evidence that you can lawfully work in that licence class while WHSQ decides. The card is posted to you and can take up to 4 weeks to arrive, with the timing set by WHSQ.

Can I work before my licence card arrives?

After you lodge your application, keep your Candidate Assessment Summary and your proof of payment. While WHSQ processes your application, they are your evidence that you can lawfully work in that licence class, and this applies only if you lodged your application within the 60 days. Your employer or site decides what evidence they will accept, so check with them before you start work.

How long does the licence last, and is it valid outside Queensland?

Your HRW licence is issued by WHSQ, is nationally recognised, and needs to be renewed every 5 years. It covers the class of high risk work you were assessed in, and each other class needs its own licence.

I am not confident with English or maths. Can I still do the course?

You must be able to speak, read and write English and complete basic numeracy calculations, because the course includes a written theory and calculations exam. We complete a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) assessment when you enrol, and if you may need extra support we will discuss it with you.

How do I make a business booking?

Business bookings are made by email to admin@worksafeqld.com.au. Include the course you need and the number of staff you want to book.

Do I need a forklift licence to operate a telehandler with a fork attachment?

What emails will I receive?

We will send you emails with your study materials, reminders about your training, invoices, and sometimes updates, special offers and other information.

Will photos be taken during training?

Photographs and/or training video may be taken. By taking part in today’s training, you grant WorkSAFE Training full rights to use the images resulting from the photography or video for publicity or other purposes that help achieve our aims. This might include (but is not limited to) the right to use them in printed and online publicity, social media, press releases and so on.

If you do not wish to be photographed, please tell your trainer.
