Who is this course for?

This course is for workers who need to understand and apply safe working at heights procedures. You might be starting a new job, moving to a different site or completing training requested by your employer.

If you are new to working at heights, tell us when you enquire. If you already have experience, we can discuss your existing training and what your employer requires.

What you will learn

  • Identify the work requirements, fall hazards and suitable risk controls.
  • Read and follow work instructions and safety procedures.
  • Select and inspect equipment, and identify faults before use.
  • Fit and adjust a harness and use the required fall protection equipment.
  • Understand anchorage requirements and the difference between restraint and fall arrest systems.
  • Access the work area safely and secure tools and materials.
  • Check that safety systems and risk controls remain effective while working.
  • Understand emergency procedures and why rescue arrangements must be in place.
  • Clean up, inspect equipment and report problems after the task.

Practical training and assessment

Your training combines explanations with practical activities so you can practise using the equipment and following safe work procedures. Ask questions as you go—our trainers are here to help you understand the task.

Assessment includes knowledge questions and observation of your practical skills. You need to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge to be assessed as competent. Attendance alone does not result in a Statement of Attainment.

  • Identification. Our team will confirm what you need for enrolment.
